The Pimpri-Chinchwad police Friday arrested a gang of three men in connection with a robbery on the old Pune-Mumbai highway.

The police identified the accused as Abhishek Bhosale, 20, Vijay Mhaske, 20, and Shantkumar Dadul, 20, all residents of Kalewadi in Pimpri.

While patrolling on the old PuneMumbai highway, a crime branch team led by senior police inspector Arvind Pawar found the accused going on a two-wheeler suspiciously.

After watching the police team, the accused tried to escape from the spot in their vehicle. But the police chased them and arrested the trio.

A probe revealed that the accused had allegedly robbed a man on the old Pune-Mumbai highway a few days ago. The police registered an offence of robbery at the Dehu Road police station. They recovered a laptop, a sharp weapon, two cell phones and a two-wheeler from the accused.

A press release Saturday stated that Bhosale and Mhaske are history-sheeters earlier booked in multiple robbery crimes.
