Pune: Loco pilot averts tragedy, applies emergency brakes on spotting gas cylinder on railway line

The police have launched a probe to find out who left the gas cylinder on the railway line.

A tragedy was averted after the loco pilot of a moving train spotted a gas cylinder on the railway track in Pune and got it cleared.
A railway protection force (RPF) personnel lodged the FIR in the case at the Lonikand police station on Monday.

Police said R T Wani, the loco pilot of Secunderabad – Pune Shatabdi Express, heading towards Pune, saw a samll red-coloured LPG cylinder on the railway line near Uruli station around 10.41pm on Sunday.

A railway official said, “The loco pilot observed a gas cylinder placed on the tracks between km markers 219/7 and 219/5 and applied the emergency brakes. Upon inspection, the train crew confirmed that the cylinder was directly beneath a power car and was fully intact.”

“The crew promptly removed the cylinder to prevent any further danger and reported the matter to the station master and relevant authorities. The RPF was informed to investigate the situation upon the train’s arrival in Pune. Before this, the staff of another train passing through the same section had also noticed the cylinder at the same location,” said the railway official.

Meanwhile, the police have launched a probe to find out who left the gas cylinder on the railway line. Police have booked unidentified persons under Sections 125 (act that endanger the personal safety or life of others) and 327 (commit mischief with the intent to destroy or make unsafe a rail) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections of the Railways Act, 1989.
