Pune: Eight vehicles gutted in fire

Police are yet to figure out the reason behind the fire.

In yet another incident of fire, eight vehicles were gutted in the wee hours of Wednesday near Navnath Mitra Mandal in Kothrud. Police are yet to figure out the reason behind the fire. The area was suffering a blackout at the time of the incident due to power failure. Police said the incident took place at around 3 am.

“The incident took place in the crowded Kishkinda Nagar area near Navnath Mitra Mandal. There was no electricity in the area at that time. Such a fire can be sparked even if a cloth or a paper is kept near a highly-heated vehicle engine. It could also be a deliberate act. We are not ruling out anything,” said a police official.

This is the third such incident in the city in recent months. The first incident took place at Ganesh Park Society near Katraj, where around three four-wheelers and 15 two-wheelers, which were parked in the society building, caught fire on March 28. The second one was near Sahakar Nagar Police Station, which gutted two four-wheelers, one autorickshaw and one bike.
