Pune-Delhi Spicejet flight returns to Pune due to technical glitch

A SpiceJet flight from Pune to Delhi was diverted back to Pune on Monday after takeoff due to a technical glitch.

Following take off, the ‘flap transit light’ in the flight was illuminated, which led pilots to take the call o return to Pune as a precautionary measure. The flight did not make an emergency landing, the airline clarified in a statement.

According to a document by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency, the primary purpose of the amber ‘LE FLAP TRANSIT’ indication is to indicate failure of the leading edge flap system.

On Monday, the Boeing 737-800 aircraft took off from Pune at 6:40am against the scheduled time of 6am. It reached near Valsad in Gujarat before making a u-turn to return to Pune, according to flight data recorded on website Flight Radar 24. It arrived back over the Pune airport at 7:30am, after which it circled over the airport for over 30 minutes, before landing at 8:10am.

The flight reached a maximum altitude of 29,000 feet. Later in the day, the same flight was to travel from Delhi to Darbhanga at 9:20 am.

Speaking to The Indian Express, a Spicejet spokesperson said, “SpiceJet flight SG 937 on September 1, 2025, operating from Pune to Delhi, returned to Pune shortly after take-off. Following take-off, the flap transit light illuminated, and the operating crew carried out all necessary checks in accordance with standard operating procedures. As a precautionary measure, the pilots decided to return to Pune. The aircraft landed safely and passengers deplaned normally. The aircraft did not make an emergency landing. Affected passengers are being accommodated on alternate flights or offered full refunds.”
