Police said a probe is on to know whether the car hit the excise officer deliberately to facilitate the escape of tempo carrying illegal country liquor. (Express Archives)A speeding car hit a state excise department officer when he intercepted a vehicle transporting illegal country liquor at Bhawadi village near Wagholi in the early hours of Friday.
Vishal Kadam, a sub inspector with the state excise department, lodged an FIR in this connection at Wagholi police station.
Police said Kadam was on a two-wheeler. He intercepted a tempo for allegedly transporting illegal country liquor at Bhawadi village around 12.30 am. While he was taking action against the tempo driver, a speeding car hit his two-wheeler. The impact was such that Kadam fell on the road and soon the tempo escaped from the spot along with the car.
Police have booked the drivers of the tempo and the car under sections 132, 324 (4) (5), 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita for allegedly causing disruption in government work.
