The Pune team produced a stellar performance to be crowned overall champions for the seventh time at the Maharashtra State Annual Athletics Championship,which began in the city on July 16 and concluded yesterday at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Balewadi.

The Pune athletes gave the home fans lots to cheer about during the past month,capturing an incredible haul of 52 gold medals,41 silver medals and 23 bronze medals to earn the ultimate prize. Their domination was so immense,that they overshot the medal tally of runners up Mumbai Suburbs by a huge margin. Mumbai Suburbs finished with 16 gold,16 silver and 20 bronze medals,while the third-placed Sangli team managed to capture 11 gold,14 silver and 12 bronze medals.

The tournament featured competitions for athletes from the Under-14,Under-16,Under-18,Under-20 and Open age group,both in the Men’s as well as the Women’s category. The event saw participation by an incredible 3400 athletes and officials from over 32 districts of Maharashtra.

The state championship concluded with the Under-16 events at the Balewadi Sports Complex yesterday,the results of which are as follows:
