Pune International Airport showed a slight improvement in the global Airport Service Quality (ASQ) rankings, moving up from 76th position in the April-June quarter to 74th in the July-September quarter, following a decline earlier this year.
With the ASQ rating increasing from 4.81 to 4.84 in Q3, compared to the previous quarter (Q2), Pune Airport has improved its position in the global assessment of passenger satisfaction.
The Pune Airport had slipped from 71st to 76th in the ASQ rankings during Q2 (April-June).
Out of the 31 parameters assessed in the survey, Pune Airport showed improvement in most categories, including ease of access to the airport, ease of navigation inside the terminal, and walking distance within the facility.
However, three parameters saw a decline compared to the previous quarter. These include the value for money of the selected mode of transport (including parking facilities), waiting time at border/passport control, and ease of connecting to other flights.
On the decline in rankings in the value for money of the selected mode of transport parameter, Pune Airport Director, Santosh Dhoke, said, “We charge only Rs 60 for 30 minutes of parking, compared to other private airports like Delhi and Mumbai, where they charge Rs 250 for half an hour.”
On the waiting time at border/passport control, Dhoke said that while other airports call passengers four hours prior to departure, in Pune, it’s just two hours, of which passengers typically spend 30 to 45 minutes in the process.
“According to the service level agreement, it takes around 30 to 45 minutes to thoroughly check the credentials of passengers. If we don’t do that properly, the process of identifying passengers becomes more complicated in the future,” he explained.
The difference between the ASQ ratings for Q2 and Q3 is 0.03, while the difference in the ASQ rating for Q3 2024 compared to the MOU target is 0.13.
The MOU target set for an excellent rating in 2019-20 was 4.68 on a five-point scale. “The world average ASQ rating in this quarter is 4.32, whereas Pune Airport has 4.84, indicating a much better performance than the global average,” added Dhoke.
