(File photo)Two policemen saved the life of a senior citizen who hanged self with the intention to end his life by giving him cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) at his residence in Krishna Nagar area of Mohammadwadi, Hadapsar.
Police said a 60-year-old man had locked himself in a room to end his life at his residence in lane number 4 Krishna Nagar, following some domestic dispute, on the afternoon of October 30.
On receiving information, police constables Gajanan Budhware and Vishal Thorat, both attached to Kalepadal police station as beat marshals for Mohammadwadi, rushed to the spot.
The senior citizen was not opening the door. So, the cops broke open the door and entered the room. They saw the senior citizen had hanged himself from the ceiling. Wasting no time, the two policemen with the help of local residents, got him down using a ladder.
The old man was unconscious. So, the policemen laid him down on the floor and gave him cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for some time. Then, he was taken to a hospital in an auto rickshaw around 12.30 pm. Police said he became conscious and was provided proper treatment at the hospital.
Sub inspector A B Shete of Kalepadal police station said the senior citizen had hanged himself due to which he became unconscious. But our constables Budhware and Thorat reached the spot soon. “They kicked open the door and rescued him by bringing him down, gave him CPR and took him to the Ruby Hall Clinic in Wanavdi with his relatives, before it was too late,” said Shete.
“The family members have informed us that the senior citizen is now stable and has been discharged from the hospital. Prompt action by the police constables saved his life,” said Shete.
