The second edition of Flea Works highlighted Pune’s independent artists
A multi-hued flag rope,a Spanish number playing in the background, and a small group of people going through a diverse mix of goodies that were on display. This weekend’s flea market, called Flea Works, was an interesting space. Set up at the recently-opened boulangerie,The Flour Works at Kalyani Nagar, the two-day flea market showcased the works of 12 artists from the city. Each entry was carefully selected by Ketan and Rishika Dossa, who started their company Masala Dossa a month ago. “We basically plan concept events or redo old ideas with new packaging. For this flea market,we actually found people who were doing different work, that one would not normally find in stores. The idea was to create a unique shopping experience, low on the other frills,” says Ketan.
For the participating artists, the market was a good opportunity to connect to customers. For enterpreneur Shah, who is trying to connect artisans from across the state by value adding their work under Potli, the flea market was a ready space for direct customer interaction . “I was a part of their first Flea Market too that happened in May. I returned for the second edition because I got a good response. Since I don’t sell at a particular place,I got a chance to connect.”
