Polls over,Moghe returns to struggles

The “crusade” of Kiran Moghe,CPM candidate for Assembly elections from Parvati, have not ended with the voting.

The “crusade” of Kiran Moghe,CPM candidate for Assembly elections from Parvati, have not ended with the voting. On Thursday night, she led the volunteers of All-India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) in raiding a ration shop at Dattawadi that was selling palm oil at Rs 40 per litre instead of Rs 30.

Moghe, known for her agitations against irregularities in the public distribution system (PDS),had raised the issue in her campaign also. On a tip-off from an AIDWA volunteer,Moghe and her associates raided the shop. “The shop owner was selling palm oil at Rs 40 per litre, which is the price in retail shops. When we enquired,he admitted that he was selling the stock from his retail shop as the stock for ration shop was not made available in time,” she said.

“Many buyers would not know the ration shop price of palm oil if our volunteers wouldn’t have noticed the goof-up. The shop owner would have even continued to charge the same price during Diwali.”

Moghe informed the matter to officers concerned, but an official complaint is yet to be lodged as the officers were busy on election duty.
