Police vigil to continue

The police deployment that was put in place in areas where attacks on people from the Northeast were reported in the city will continue for some more time.

The police deployment that was put in place in areas where attacks on people from the Northeast were reported in the city will continue for some more time. Cops are also in touch with leaders from various communities to avoid any communal tension. Attacks had been reported from from Kondhwa,Cantonment and Hadapsar police station areas.

On people of the Northeast starting to return,Police Commissioner Gulabrao Pol told Newsline,“It is a positive sign. To prevent any untoward incident we are keeping a close tab on movements within individual jurisdictions.”

Senior inspector Prasad Hasabnis of the police station in Kondhwa,the area where the most number of attacks had been reported,said,“Of those who left,about 10 per cent have returned. The bandobast at crucial points we had put up after the attacks continues to be in place. A company from State Reserved Police Force (SRPF) is still stationed here.”

Hasabnis added,“We are in regular communication with leaders of religious communities. An Eid Milan has also been organised in Kondhwa. People who helped us to maintain peace will be felicitated by the police commissioner.”
