Police launch hunt for absconding conman

The Pune police have launnched a search for a man who is suspected to have fled after allegedly cheating about a thousand persons from different parts of the country to the tune of few crores rupees through a website assuring huge financial returns to the investors.

Police have identified the suspect as Subhash Ventakatesh Kamat,resident of Siddhratha Nagar,Chinchwad. One Yuvaraj Kambalimath (37),resident of Hubli,Karnataka has lodged acomplaint at the Shivajinagar police station.

The cyber crime and economic offences wing of the Pune police is investigating the case.

According to the police,Kamat and his aides started a website http://www.rkth.biz/www.rkth.org on January 1 this year. They gave details of offers and plans assuring huge financial returns on the website.

“The fraudsters offered on their website a tour package at some 80 hotels in different parts of country once a year for those investing Rs 10,000 or more. It would include free lodging and boarding for four persons for five days. And those who did not want the tour would get returns with one percent interest per day on the amount of investment,” said police inspector Prabhakar Shinde.

The complainant Kambalimath invested Rs 30,000,but did not get any returns. So he lodged the police complaint on Monday. The Pune police have booked him under section 406,409,420 of Indian Penal Code and section 4,5 of Prize Chit and Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act 1978. Investigation so far revealed that Kamat had taken an office on rent in Pune in June.

He however closed the office sometime in August and fled. Police suspect that he has cheated at least 979 persons from different parts of the country to the tune of few crores.

The Mumbai crime branch has also received a complaint against Kamat.

Both the Pune and Mumbai police are searching for him. Police have appealed those who have been cheated by the website to come up with their complaint.
