The Mahratta Chamber of Commerce,Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA) has blamed the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML),private bus operators and rickshaw drivers for the traffic chaos in the city. They called on the DCP Traffic Manoj Patil and the CMD of PMPML to take stringent action against errant drivers.

“The study by Railway,Road Traffic Management unit of MCCIA has revealed that one of the major causes for creating traffic problems in Pune is the violation of traffic signals by the drivers of PMPML as well as private bus drivers and rickshaw drivers. It has been observed that whenever there is ‘no free signal’ to the left side of the road at traffic junctions, they induce the driver of vehicle standing in front of his vehicle to disregard and break the red signal by honking continuously,” said Chandmal Parmar,MCCIA head in a press release.

“When a driver of an organisation like PMPML violates traffic rule by jumping over the red signal,two-wheeler/four-wheeler,rickshaw drivers blindly follow such act. As a consequence, the driver who wishes to observe traffic rules also will have to undergo sufferings of traffic indiscipline. Besides,it is also dangerous to the pedestrians,” said Parmar.
