PMPML officer says targeted for refusing BRTS post

A senior officer of the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited has alleged that he did not receive salary for the month of February and his official car was also taken away after he refused to take up the post of the manager of the Bus Rapid Transit System cell.

A senior officer of the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has alleged that he did not receive salary for the month of February and his official car was also taken away after he refused to take up the post of the manager of the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) cell.

In January, the then PMPML chairman and managing director Shirish Karle had issued an order to appoint chief engineer Anant Waghmare for the post. However,Waghmare, who has been working with the PMPML for the last 15 years, refused to take up the post, saying the authorities had not clearly defined the post and there was no clarity whether it was an additional charge or a full-fledged one.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) had announced the setting up of a separate cell for BRTS for its better implementation starting from April 1. Later, the PMC withdrew itself from this and gave all the powers to PMPML.

“In January, senior PMPML officers created the post of the BRTS manager and appointed me as the manager. Though I accepted the offer,I got suspicious about it and refused it later because working as the chief engineer and as a BRTS manager would have been totally different. There was no relation between my present profile and the newly created post. Since nothing had been defined in the letter,I conveyed my inability to join,” Waghmare told The Indian Express.

“After that, last month,I went on a medical leave for 14 days, but the administration did not pay me even a single rupee as salary for February saying that since I had not started working as a manager of BRTS cell, they had stopped the salary for the month. The authorities have also stopped sending me the official car,” he added.

When contacted,PMPML joint managing director Satish Kulkarni said,“Waghmare had been asked to take up the post of BRTS manager. However,he refused to accept it. Moreover,he immediately went on a medical leave, without getting it sanctioned. If his leave is not sanctioned, why should the organisation pay him? Secondly,if he is on leave, why does he need the official car?”
