The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) bus service has failed to match the pace of Kharadis progress. While IT companies setting shop have ensured residential and commercial activities fill every nook and cranny, the otherwise ubiquitous buses of the transport body are few and far between, dumping office-goers at Kharadigaon,a couple of kilometres from their destinations.
The buses do not proceed further and so they have to walk about 1.5 to 2 kilometres to reach their companies in the EON Free Zone IT/ITeS SEZ,part of the MIDC Kharadi Knowledge Park.
Although all companies provide office transport,if we happen to miss the bus or are unable to take the company bus for any other reason,we are left with no option but drive to office, said Mahendra Ranpise, who stays in Pashan and works with a company at EON Free Zone.
Since most IT companies are located beyond Kharadi bus terminus, employees have to walk for about two kilometres to reach their offices,if they do not have their own vehicles. I am new to Pune and do not have my own vehicle. After getting down at Kharadigaon,I have to walk two kilometres to my office in EON Free Zone or take a six-seater or ask for a lift. But,all of these modes are time -consuming. If the bus service is extended further than Kharadigaon,it would help many others like me, said Manohar G,also an IT professional.
There are more than a dozen companies in EON Free Zone and a couple of others with thousands of employees travelling from all over the city to Kharadi. The routes to Kharadi are limited, from Pune station,Katraj,PMC building,Swargate and Warje Malwadi that go till Kharadigaon. Employees from Pashan,Bavdhan,Bibvewadi and Khadki have to take two buses to Pune station or Swargate and to Kharadigaon.
