PMC issues takeover notice to Vyas Constructions

The Pune Municipal Corporation has issued a notice to Vyas Constructions, owned by Girish Vyas,son-in-law of former chief minister Manohar Joshi that they would be taking possession of the illegally constructed Sundew Apartments on Prabhat Road,on Friday.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued a notice to Vyas Constructions, owned by Girish Vyas,son-in-law of former chief minister Manohar Joshi that they would be taking possession of the illegally constructed Sundew Apartments on Prabhat Road,on Friday. The PMC would be converting the building into a civic primary school.

It was on October 12 that the apex court had directed Vyas Constructions to hand over the building to PMC,failing which the builder or the PMC should take steps for demolition of the building.

PMC commissioner Mahesh Pathak had said the PMC would not demolish the building as it would mean a national waste. He said the PMC would do what the development plan says and abide by the Supreme Court order. “We will set a up a school as per the reservation made on the plot in the development plan of PMC,” the civic chief had said.

Civic activist Vijay Kumbhar had first filed a public interest litigation in the Bombay High Court in August 1998. In March 1999,the HC ruled that the building should be demolished and had passed strictures against Joshi.
