The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) standing committee on Friday approved work tenders to the tune of Rs 19 crore for beautification and protection of water bodies in the city. The funds will be sought from the Jawaharlal National Urban Mission (JNNURM) for beautification. The announcement was made by standing committee chairman Ganesh Bidkar at a press meet.

A tie-up with the forest department to develop green patches in the city is also being proposed by the PMC and the corporation is scheduled to identify spots for tree plantation, added Bidkar. The committee has also approved tenders of Rs 3.36 crore to carry out repair work at garbage ramps at Katraj,Aundh,Ghole Road,Koregaon Park and Paud Road.
With the repair work pending, solid waste department was facing difficulties in segregation. The proposal of cement concrete road connecting Kondwa-Lullanagar and costing Rs 1.92 crore and a pedestrian bridge on Alandi Road near Phule Nagar, costing Rs 71 lakh too has been cleared. The other tenders approved by the standing committee included Rs 15.29 crore for road works,Rs 5 crore for water works,Rs 1 crore for traffic department,Rs 3 crore for garden department,Rs 30.25 crore for JNNURM works and Rs 3.1 crore for solid waste management.
The meeting also approved the civic administrations proposal to divert Rs 70 crore capital and revenue budget towards civic employees salary and first installment of sixth pay commission. Bidkar said they would need an additional Rs 35 crore towards this initiative.
The PMC has to pay the arrears from 2006-2009. It had decided to do so by installments. This year the PMC had earmarked Rs 25 crore in the budget for this purpose, but the amount is insufficient. Hence the funds meant for capital and revenue expenditure works in the 2011-12 budget should be diverted for the same, stated the proposal.
