Defending champion’s Christ Church School,Mumbai,continued its imperious form with yet another big win,but it was The Bishop’s School,Camp,that scored a 3-1 shock win against Barnes School,Devlali in Nashik,to set the day in motion at the 25th Maharashtra Anglo-Indian ICSE Inter-School Football tournament.

Faizan Shaikh scored six goals and Rayan Shaikh slotted in five as Christ Church School,Mumbai,thrashed St Peter’s School,Panchgani,14-0 in a show of complete dominance.

The Group ‘A’ match was a one-sided contest from the start as Faizan Shaikh opened the scoring in the fourth minute and didn’t allow the Panchgani school a moment of respite.

In other Group ‘A’ action,Bombay Scottish School,Mahim,defeated their Powai namesake 8-0 with Rushabh Singh firing a hat-trick. Singh scored his goals in the fifth,15th and 28th minute,respectively.

Hutchings High School,Pune,also continued their winning run,scoring a 3-1 win against St Peter’s School,Mazagaon,thanks to Chirag Shah’s two goals and Jigar Bajaj’s 63rd minute effort.

The Bishop’s School,Camp,scored an impressive 3-1 win against a formidable Barnes School,in a show of total teamwork. Glen Godfrey (34th),Samual Ralte (60th) and Elton Mendonce (72nd) were the scorers for Bishop’s. For Barnes School,Whezan Ansar scored in the 62nd minute to reduce Bishop’s 2-0 lead but could not stop the well-drilled outfit from holding out for a deserving victory.

St Mary’s,Bishop’s girls win in basketball

In the basketball tournament for girls,Pune schools opened with impressive wins at The Bishop’s Co-ed School,Kalyaninagar. St Mary’s School,Pune,rallied from being down in the first quarter against Bombay Scottish School,Mahim,to score a 28-26 win. Saee Bhade scored eight points and Ruhi Kanakia earned nine,while Rachael Netto (13) and Deeya Parikh (9) were the scorers for Bombay Scottish.

St Mary’s was down 5-7 in the first quarter,but sneaked ahead 13-10 by halftime. At the end of the third quarter,St Mary’s were placed at 21-16 before closing the contest at 28-26,in the Group ‘A’ match.

In Group ‘B’,the host Bishop’s,Kalyaninagar,beat Christ Church School,Mumbai,32-28. Yashal Patil was the top-scorer with 14 points,while Sonia Gosain scored six points. It was Kimberly Fernandez of Christ Church School who took the honours with 20 points even as her school ended on the losing side.
