Perfect Timing?

Aamir Khan wants to revive the coveted Sunday morning slot with his new TV show.

“Yeh show aankhon se nahin, dil se dekhna padega,” quips Aamir Khan in one of the promos of his upcoming televsion show,Satyamev Jayate. He reiterated the same at a press conference in Mumbai on Friday, while unveiling the anthem of the show. He referred to the track — written by Prasoon Joshi and composed by Ram Sampath — as his “love song for the country”.

For the uninitiated,Khan has travelled extensively over several weeks to various places in Rajasthan,Kashmir,Kerala,Delhi,Punjab and several North-Eastern states for the show. The title track with shots of popular destinations of India appears like a travels show even as the title,Satyamev Jayate, gives a different feel. However,Khan did not disclose the format and content of the show and dodged questions related to them. In the run up to his television debut,he perhaps wants to keep the guessing game and buzz on.

The press conference threw in yet another surprise, when Khan announced the time slot for the show. While most actors debuting in television would vie for a primetime slot,Khan has locked the 11am time slot on Sunday for his television show. The show that goes on air on May 6 will simultaneously be telecast on nine channels across Star Networks in different languages at the same time. The hour-long show is targetted at viewers across age-groups. It is Khan’s “dream” that the entire family sit together and watch it,just the way people watched Ramayana and Mahabharata in the early ’90s. This seems like a smart move by Khan, thanks to the otherwise dismal programming on Sundays.
