PCB president has no time for meets, development hit

Pune Sub Area commander and president of Pune Cantonment Board Maj Gen Aniruddha Chakravarty recently informed the PCB CEO that he was "too tied up" to preside over the general board meetings.

Pune Sub Area commander and president of Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) Maj Gen Aniruddha Chakravarty recently informed the PCB CEO that he was “too tied up” to preside over the general board meetings.

Board members said that in the absence of meetings,no decision on developmental works was being taken.

Members said they were informed by CEO Rachel Koshy that the Maj Gen was short of time to hold meetings. Since he took over in February,he has held only one meeting. “The Sub Area commander doesn’t have time to hold meetings. The last was in April and for over two months there has been no meeting,” said PCB vice-president Manzoor Nazir Shaikh. In February,Maj Gen Chakravarty replaced Brigadier Rajbeer Singh as PCB president.

Members said major developmental works have been hit. “Approval of some 17 tenders for sanitation works and repair of drainage system are pending. Work orders can’t be issued until tenders are cleared in the board meeting,” said Shaikh. He added that there was a large number building permission pending.

When contacted,Chakravarty said he can’t comment as he was not in the city. “Once I come to Pune,I can give the response,” he said

PCB members say the board couldn’t take stock of preparedness for monsoon to deal with waterlogging. PCB member Prasad Prakash Kedari said this meeting should have been held earlier.

Following the busy schedule of Maj Gen Chakravarty,PCB members have asked the CEO to hold board meetings in his absence under section 22 of the 2006 Cantonment Act. “We have written to the CEO that the meeting of the board be held in the absence of president and be presided over by vice-president,” said PCB member Aarti Mahajan.
