Set up patrol teams across Maharashtra to stem drug menace, MLC Satyajeet Tambe urges state DGP
Satyajeet Tambe wrote to state DGP in the wake of the recent drug haul in Pune and Nashik and the attack on Marathi writer and activist Heramb Kulkarni in Ahmednagar.

Maharashtra Independent MLC Satyajeet Tambe, who supports the BJP, has demanded the setting up of police patrol teams across the state in the wake of the recent drug haul in Pune and Nashik and the attack on Marathi writer and activist Heramb Kulkarni in Ahmednagar.
In a letter to State Director General of Police Rajnish Seth, Tambe expressed deep concern over the drug bust and urged the police force to prevent the state from being a land of drug addicts.
“While on the one hand, large stacks of drugs were found in Nashik, on the other hand, social activist Heramb Kulkarni was attacked when he was removing tobacco stalls near school areas with the help of the Nashik municipal corporation. This is a matter of great concern. I urge you to set up police patrol teams across the state to prevent it from becoming ‘Udta’ Maharashtra,” he stated.
He said the police need to take swift action so that students and youth don’t fall in the net of drug addiction. Patrol squads should maintain strict vigil even at small shops and stalls outside schools and colleges, Tambe demanded.
In the letter, he said the problem of drugs is not limited to a particular city but is fast spreading across Maharashtra. “In big cities like Mumbai, cases of drug selling on tapris or small stalls near schools have surfaced. Such incidents also came to light in Pune. Once a huge cache of drug is seized in in Nashik, schools, parents, and the police force of the entire state should be on alert,” said Tambe.
He said social activist Heramb Kulkarni, who works on various issues in the education sector, forced the Nashik Municipal Corporation to take action against cigarette-tobacco vendors outside schools a few days ago. Later, the drug stocks were seized after which Kulkarni sir was assaulted. “It is necessary to investigate whether all these things are connected and if a cartel is involved in all this,” Tambe said.
Tambe said the school administration should be alert to any suspicious activities in and around school compound and communicate with the students.
