Against the backdrop of rising number of student suicides,Pune-based psychiatrist Dr Ulhas Luktuke said that instead of acting as ‘supervisors’,parents should act as guiding companions.

He was speaking at an event organised by Knowledge Divine Information Technology Pvt Ltd and Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Limited (MKCL) on the preparation for the exam recently.

Dr Liktuke said,“Now a days,it happens that parents are more stressed about school examinations than the child who appears for it. Parents pass an unnecessary burden on to their child. Therefore,it will do good for the child if the parents play the role of a guiding companion istead of a supervisor.”

He further advised them to follow the system of three ‘R’s — registration, retention and recall — during studies. “The number of private centres providing coaching for board exams has increased over the last few years. So,attending private tuitions, apart from their regular schools, also indirectly adds to stress.”

Educationist Dr Pradeep Agashe, managing director of MKCL Vivek Sawant were also present.
