Oscar Resul returns to his roots

Oscar-winnER Resul Pookutty turned up at his alma mater — the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) — on Wednesday,the first time after winning the Academy Award for sound mixing in Slumdog Millionaire.

Oscar-winnER Resul Pookutty turned up at his alma mater — the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) — on Wednesday,the first time after winning the Academy Award for sound mixing in Slumdog Millionaire.

The venue was choc-a-block with students,professors and staff members of the FTII who gathered to welcome the sound sensation.

Pookutty said,“it is an emotional moment for me. The days I spent at FTII were some of the most memorable ones in my life. I thank the institute for changing my outlook towards the world as well as cinema.”

The crowd went on a high and students cheered and shouted FTII slogans as Pookutty took out the golden Oscar statuette,placed it on the table and introduced members of his team.

After the felicitation by Pankaj Rag,director of FTII,Pookutty visited the wisdom tree and interacted with journalists,talking about his FTII days from 1991 to ’94.

On projects from abroad,Pookutty said he will always want to settle in India. “Soon,I plan to come up with a design institute,and it will be located in Mumbai,” he said.
