Octroi revenue up Rs 23 crore
The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has received Rs 23 crore more octroi in October compared to the last fiscal. Officials said October octroi earning last year stood at Rs 55 crore. This year in October,the octroi revenue was Rs 78 crore. Through company accounts the PCMC received Rs 6 crore more than last fiscal. Municipal Commissioner Asheesh Sharma said things have improved after the recession.
Fire brigade saves 105 lives in 3 yrs
A report released by the fire brigade on Friday said in the last three years,the department of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation had saved 105 lives and protected property worth Rs 12 crore. PCMC fire chief Kiran Gawde said the fire brigade has 125 employees and 12 fire fighting vehicles. He said calls to douse blaze are centred around Pimpri-Chinchwad-Bhosari industrial area where nearly 5,000 industrial units are located. Gawde said a central fire brigade will be set up in Nehrunagar.
Suggestions sought for budget
The budget makers of PCMC last week spent nervous time trying to woo people to participate in the budget process. Till the penultimate day of receiving suggestions from citizens,only eight had responded in a city of 15 lakh. On the last day on Wednesday,50 more suggestions were received.Municipal Commissioner Asheesh Sharma said he will try to include as many suggestions as possible.
Chinchwadgaon school plastic-free
New English School,Chinchwadgaon,has decided to do away with plastic. Vikas Patil,president of NGO Paryavaran Sanvardhan Samiti,said the school was the first one in town to respond to its appeal against plastic. Students of this school do not bring eatables wrapped in plastic nor do they use polythene bags, Patil said.
Pay double tax for illegal structures
The PCMC plans to double the property tax for owners of illegal constructions built after January 4,2008. The civic body will also not regularise such structures. Many people construct structures without proper permission from the civic body and then seek permission for regularisation. Henceforth,first people will have to get permission if they want to regularise their structures, civic commissioner Asheesh Sharma said. The civic administrations proposal will be tabled before the standing committee Tuesday.
Dapodi gets contaminated water
Residents of suburban Dapodi have been receiving contaminated water for a week. After local corporator Chandrakanta Sonkamble brought it to the notice of PCMC,officials moved to plug leaks and clean pipelines. PCMC Additional City Engineer (Water supply) Pravin Tupe blamed local residents who he said had taken illegal water connections.
