To avoid any inconvenience to citizens due to digging of roads during the monsoon, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Friday said permission for digging roads would not be given after April 15 and that all ongoing work should be completed by April 30.

The civic body gives permission to various organisations, including electricity and telephone companies for laying cables. Roads are also dug up for laying pipelines for water supply and sewage treatment.

According to a PMC statement issued here on Friday,“It is necessary to carry out road maintenance work before the start of the monsoon. Thus, the digging should not take place after April 30. Those ignoring the civic administration’s decision will have to face legal action and will be penalised.”

Organisations that need to take up digging work urgently should submit their application by April 15 after fulfilling all the requisite criteria, the statement said. Meanwhile, the PMC has undertaken road maintenance work at various place across the city.
