Khed is one of the three sites. In another bid to push the proposed Pune international airport, a meeting held over a week back in Pune by officials of the Maharashtra Airport Development Company, the Airport Authority of India and Indian Air Force has decided to prepare the technical report for alternative sites by August 30.

With Foxconn and a battery of other foreign companies set to make investments in Pune, the proposed airport will only help in getting in more investments for the district, officials said.
The meeting was convened by Pune divisional Commissioner.
Presently, the administration has proposed three alternative sites and it has been decided to prepare the feasibility report for them. “We already have the old sites of Chakan and Khed, which have been cleared by the AAI and IAF on the technical front. But there were issues regarding acquisition of irrigated land. The alternative land shown to the administration has already been surveyed and the feasibility report would be prepared by the month-end,” officials said.
The proposed airport needs at least 3,000 acres of land (1,200 hectares). There is no continuous tract of government land available. The runway, for technical reasons, should be in the east-west direction.
The administration has not completely ruled out the earlier sites of Khed and Chakan.
