“I am happy that golf has been included in the Olympics. Unfortunately, the game is picking up in most countries except India. More public golf courses are required to promote the sport and increase public access,” said golfer Gaganjeet Bhullar, who was in Pune to conduct a special golf clinic for women at Poona Golf Course. About 30 women participated in the golf clinic organised by Westin Hotel, Koregaon Park.
Bhullar said, “We need more public access like in European countries and Korea. In the last few years, our economy was on a revival path and therefore, there were not enough sponsors for sports other than cricket. What we need is better infrastructure and at least 10 to 15 public golf courses for the common people.”
Bhullar added, “I was out with wrist injury last year, but now, I am not feeling the pain. Although I have dropped in ranking considerably due to this-from 82 which was my best-it is just a matter of time before I return to the top 100. I would be playing in the Oxford Poona Open, followed by the Panasonic Open in Japan and I would like to get back to the European Open for the first time after 2013.”
