MVA candidates raise clamour to replace EVMs with ballot paper
In a meeting held at the city NCP(SP) office on Wednesday, Prashant Jagtap and Ashok Pawar of NCP (SP), and Ramesh Bagwe and Datta Bahirat of the Congress discussed the election process with legal and technical experts.

Alleging that the electronic voting machines (EVM) used in the Maharashtra Assembly elections were tampered with, candidates fielded by the MVA on Wednesday decided to file a petition against the election process.
In a meeting held at the city NCP(SP) office on Wednesday, Prashant Jagtap and Ashok Pawar of NCP (SP), and Ramesh Bagwe and Datta Bahirat of the Congress discussed the election process with legal and technical experts.
“We have decided to challenge the use of EVMs for elections in court and create a public movement,” said acting city NCP(SP) chief Ankush Kakade.
Jagtap said many reports have emerged of alleged tampering of EVMs during assembly elections. “If many countries have given up EVM for elections and returned to ballot paper, then the same should be done in India,” said Jagtap adding that the electronic part of the EVM is technical and beyond the understanding of candidates, so it can be tampered with.
“We do not accept the results as it was pre-planned and and the results were manipulated by the machine,” said Jagtap.
Bagwe said the voting data raises doubt on the authenticity of EVMs. “It is shocking that the data mismatches. We strongly demand that EVMs be replaced by ballot paper,” said Bagwe.
