Shruti Mundada claimed the womens singles title after a marathon effort against a fighting Revati Devasthale at The Construction Pune District Metropolitan Badminton Associations District Badminton Championship.
Top seed Mundada won the first game comfortably 21-16. However,Devasthale who showed her fighting spirit and never-say-die attitude throughout the tournament,seemed to have reserved her best for the last. She clinched the second game 17-21,adopting an aggressive approach.
In the third game,both players seemed intent on forcing the other to make a mistake. The game was replete with long rallies,with both players trying their best to use the most uncommon of angles on the court. Mundada finally prevailed 21-17 in the match that lasted an hour and five minutes.
In the mens singles final,number one seeded Shubhankar Dey beat a spirited Mayank Gole 21-18,21-18. The match lasted for 40 minutes and was a very close affair,amply suggested by the scoreline with Gole regularly pushing Dey to the limit.
In the boys Under-19 category,top seed Sudhanshu Medsikar strolled to the title as he demolished Ajeet Kumbhar 21-13,21-14 in just 25 minutes.
Aditi Kale won the girls Under-17 singles category as she beat Purva Barve 21-15,21-9 in 24 minutes. In the girls Under-13 category,Sanashree Dhamdhere capped off a fine run in the tournament defeating Neha Shrikhande 21-15,21-19. The boys Under-13 category was won by Kedar Bhide who beat the top seed Shlok Agarwal,21-10,15-21,21-4.
The mens doubles final was won by the top seeded pair of Sameer Bhagwat and Varun Khanwalkar against the number two pair of Nishad Dravid and Mayank Gole. Bhagwat-Khanwalkar won 21-9,21-13 in just 28 minutes.
In the mens singles (over 45) category,third seeded Vinay Date defeated top seed Atul Biniwale 21-17,21-13. In the doubles event of the same category,Biniwale extracted revenge as he and partner Girish Natu defeated Harish Angolkar and Vinay 21-15,21-19.
