(Representational Image) A bus operated by the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation developed a brake failure and hit three pedestrians on the Pune-Solapur highway, killing one of them and seriously injuring the others, near Bhigwan town of Pune district on Monday morning. It also damaged five bikes.
Officers from the Bhigwan police station said the incident took place around 11.20 am on the service road of the highway in front of Morya Garage. The MSRTC bus from the Kalamb depot in Osmanabad was going to Pune when it had a suspected brake failure.
Assistant Inspector Dilip Pawar, in-charge of the Bhigwan police station, said, “The initial probe points to a brake failure, after which the driver lost control of the vehicle and hit three persons. One person has died and two others have been injured. The bus also hit some bikes parked on the highway.”
The police later booked the driver of the bus, Ashok Salunkhe (42), a resident of Osmanabad, on the charges of causing death by negligence and rash driving.
The deceased has been identified as Gangaram Soma Pawar (62) and the two injured persons as Sandeep Dombale (35) and Manohar Bandgar (50).
