Pune city continued to witness heavy rains on Saturday post the end of season on September 30.
22.6 mm rainfall was recorded till evening while Lohegaon area saw heavy showers with 51.9 mm rainfall.
The Met department has said more rain is expected for the coming two days with a cyclonic circulation in the south central peninsular region giving good rains to the state and the city.

Incidentally, even as nationwide rainfall has recorded a deficit of 3 per cent, Pune city after two years of deficit has recorded 5 mm more rainfall than the normal mean, stated Met department officials. From June-September, Pune city recorded 571.3 mm rainfall while the normal mean is 566.3 mm.
This year, the months of July and August recorded good rainfall which in turn helped in filling up the reservoirs supplying water to the city. For the season, June recorded 59.0 mm, July recorded 223.3 mm, August recorded 217.2 mm while September recorded 71.8 mm rainfall for the season with Met officials stating that there has been a little above normal rainfall recorded for the city.
In the country, of the 36 divisions, five divisions have recorded excess rainfall, 21 have recorded normal rainfall while 10 divisions have recorded deficient rainfall.
“Pune city has been facing a deficit in the last two years. This year, because of the heavy rains recorded in July and August, it has made up for the season and rainfall has crossed a little above normal,’’ stated Met officials.
In the last two years, while July and August faced a deficit, this year all the four months were above the normal mean.
Meanwhile, even as it is time for the withdrawal of monsoon, there is no sign yet for the state and will definitely not happen this week. With the moisture-laden winds continuing, there was only some withdrawal recorded from west Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. “We don’t see the same happening for the state this week at least,” added the official, having signalled good rainfall in the state especially the Marathwada regions.
For the state too, all the four divisions have recorded good rainfall and there is no deficit. Madhya Maharashtra has recorded excess of 13 per cent, Marathwada has recorded excess of 21 per cent, Vidarbha has recorded 8 per cent while Konkan and Goa have recorded 22 per cent excess rainfall according to the chart put up by the Met department.
