Momo mia

Be it dearth of good salad bars or just a fetish for good food,Mrinal Kaul, entrepreneur and restaurateur, finally gave shape to his dream of opening a snack joint at Aundh.

Mystic Momos in Aundh is equally recommended by youth and family given its tasty and healthy food

Be it dearth of good salad bars or just a fetish for good food,Mrinal Kaul, entrepreneur and restaurateur, finally gave shape to his dream of opening a snack joint at Aundh. And his decision of opening the joint Mystic Momos, came as good news for many, who too missed some good and authentic Chinese snack. “In the past I had helped many friends into their food business because of my interest and eventually I had always thought of coming into this. When I started thinking seriously, momos were the first thing to strike because I don’t get to have some good ones around this area,” says Kaul.

While offering a quick taste bite, the joint also proves its health consciousness by using only multigrain bread for its sandwiches and promoting its steamed momos and salads. “Youngsters were our target group, when we had opened the restaurant, but we knew it well that if we plan to serve them,we have to be careful in choosing the product,as youth is careless. This not only helped us in retaining our young customers, but also winning some family as our loyal customers,” adds Kaul.

Keeping in mind their target group the prices are pocket friendly and ranges between Rs 40 to Rs 80 (excluding buffet salads, which is only available for lunch). Steamed Chicken Momos (Rs 60) and Coleslaw Salad (Rs 60) are among the most popular food items in the joint.

The joint that initially introduced regular salads and sandwiches, revised their menu on Friday and now offers more than regular and different stuff. “We have included thupkas and different combinations of sandwiches, which is different from normal chutney or club sandwich. By enriching the menu we not only mean adding more taste, but we have also taken care to bring more green in the ingredients used in salads or sandwiches,” says Kaul.

The menu card also boasts of a range of ‘healthy’ beverages. “By healthy beverages,we mean we have juices and flavoured tea to go with the food. Sparklers,a combination of soft drink and flavoured syrup, are a hit among the youngsters. One may choose from the range of flavoured tea – herbal, black or green – that is served both hot or cold according to the demand.

Keeping in mind the food habits of the youth, they offer momo only in the evenings and mornings are exclusively for salads and sandwiches. “We are open from 12 noon to 3pm and from 4.30 to 10.30 pm,” adds Kaul.

Sandesh Parmar,a regular at the joint, says,“I am hooked to the food here and thankfully my parents don not stop me because they have tasted and find it hygienic and healthy. My all time favorite is chicken barbequed, which is filling enough and comes only for Rs 50,which is affordable for students.”
