Former Union minister for commerce and former deputy chairman of the Planning Commission,Mohan Dharia, was admitted to the intensive care unit of Poona Hospital on Saturday afternoon. The 89-year-old was diagnosed with chronic renal failure.
His condition is critical, said Dr Vinod Shah, the physician treating Dharia.
Dharia suffered from hypertension and also had ischaemic heart disease. We were reluctant to start dialysis due to his frail condition. However,he underwent dialysis and we are administering drugs to stabilise the blood pressure, Dr Shah said.
Dharia, however, was conscious and also tried to fold his hands in a namaste when Forest Minister Patangrao Kadam visited him and enquired about his health,Shah said.
Dharia had on October 3 attended a programme to celebrate world senior citizens day. We are trying our best to stabilise his condition, Dr Shah said.
