A 16-year-old boy from Kondhwa, who had left home to participate in ‘Dhol Tasha Pathak’ last week, was later allegedly kidnapped and murdered, the Pune City police said.

Police have so far arrested two men, Sairaj Lonkar (25) and Omkar Kapre (25), both residents of Kondhwa. Police said the victim lived with his family in Shivneri Nagar, Kondhwa. On September 2, he had gone to practise ‘Dhol Tasha’ instruments but did not return home. His family then lodged a missing report at the Kondhwa police station.

During investigation, police came to know that one more minor boy who went missing along with the victim had returned home. Police questioned the boy and it emerged that Lonkar, Kapre and their accomplices allegedly kidnapped the victim and took him to Saswad area, where he was beaten to death.

“The accused suspected that the victim was sharing their information with a rival group. For this, they allegedly thrashed the minor severely with bamboo sticks, causing his death. The prime accused are yet to be arrested,” said senior police inspector Santosh Sonawane of the Kondhwa police station.
