It’s easy interiors and welcoming atmosphere of Grubshup,an eatery at Law College Road,might puzzle a first timer but one look at the menu would leave you surprised. “It’s the ambience combined with good food that pulls people here,” says Urmila Paranjape,co-owner of Grubshup. The place gives coffee and conversations a whole new meaning with their authentic filter coffee. Opened in August last year,it has had quite a line up of regulars making their presence felt. “We wanted Grubshup to be more like a community place,where people could come in groups,chit chat,eat at affordable prices,” says Anil Paranjape the owner. The menu is influenced by their travels in Middle Eastern and Mediterranean countries. Order their homemade pita bread,baked to perfection to go with hummus or a selection of dips. A must try is custom made drinks starting from Rs.60 per pitcher for the base drink. Diganta Deka (aka DD) will be more than happy to suggest some of his quirky experimentations like the Thai Ice-cream with Thai spices or the Chicken Chilli Jam which has groundnuts and lemon to add that extra zing. A little piece of America would be the New Orleans speciality Po’boy (short for poor boy) Chicken for Rs 70 that could be combined with Pita Bread or could be ordered as a sandwich. End the evening with chocolate daffodil,chocolate pastry with layers of fresh fruit or the t popular walnut brownie with vanilla.

German Treats
As a part of Maharashtra’s Golden Jubilee celebrations the Shreyas Hotel had organised a special Maharastrian food festival at Munich in Germany between 22 and 30 April 2010. A team of 4 cooks,one coordinator and the owner Mandar Chitale traveled to Germany and served typical Maharashtrian fare like Modaks,Puranpoli,Patwadi,Khavyachyi Poli,Masale Bhat and Kothimbir Bhat. A total of 1200 people had enjoyed the Maharashtrian cuisine served to them,of which 90 per cent were Germans. Those resent for the event included Jayant Naralikar and Oscar winning Director Caroline Link. About the experience Chitale says,” We are overwhelmed by the response we got for Maharashtrian food in Germany. We are looking forward to a franchise for a restaurant in Munich by the end of the year.”
