Magistrate court on Thursday remanded Shaikh Imran Mehmud Qureshi in police custody till July 22. Qureshi,24,a resident of Bopodi, was arrested for hoax information about a terror threat to Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Temple. After obtaining permission from judicial magistrate (first class) S R Nimse police produced him before a magistrate asking for a seven-day police remand arguing that the kind of claims he had made were concerned with security issues and it was important to do a thorough investigation. Police argued that it was possible that he made the statements on somebody’s directives and hence it is necessary to know if there’s any terror module involved. Police found Qureshi near the railway tracks at Daund. He was in an inebriated state and had suffered head injuries. GRP officials admitted him to hospital. Shaikh allegedly ‘revealed’ names of two Pakistani ‘terrorists’ to GRP officials saying that the duo had dumped him near the tracks after he refused their request to plant a bomb on the temple premises in return of Rs 30,000. Police had registered a non-cognizable case against Shaikh under Sections 182,and 505 of the IPC. Under NC cases, police can not arrest any person without the order of a magistrate.
