The Khadak police have arrested a 28-year-old man for allegedly duping more than 15 individuals to the tune of Rs 1.5 lakh by using forged letterhead and stamps of an insurance company and the identification code of another insurance agent.

The suspect,Rahul Rajendra Dusale,is a resident of Nana Peth. According to the complaint filed by Sachin Malasane,a manager with the Pune office of the insurance company,Dusane,posing as an authorised insurance agent,approached people with plans for insuring two and four-wheelers.

Sub-inspector B D Howal,of Khadak police said,“Every insurance agent is given an IMD (Insurance Mediation Directive) number. Dusane used IMD number of another agent,Mahesh Dashrath Ture,and took money from people who he had approached.”

He had been indulging in fraudulent practices since March 2010,the police said.

The fraud came to light after a customer approached the insurance company for renewing the policy.

Police said Dusane had forged documents based on papers of the policy that Ture had once mediated for.

Howal said,“Ture and the company administration then found out how many people have been duped. Based on the complaint,we nabbed Dusane on Saturday.”

“Of the 15 people duped,eight have been contacted,” he added.

Dusane has been booked under Section 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing the delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code.
