Man missing for 11 years traced using FB

For over a decade,a youth who left home when he was 22 years old did not make any effort to connect with his family. After remaining in the missing person file of the police for so long,the youth,now around 33 years old,resurfaced on the Net,and was traced to Shirdi.

The newly floated cyber crime cell of Pune rural police says he was traced on July 5 using Facebook.

Manohar Vyankatrao Nemmanivar,a native of Mauje Kinvat in Nanded district,had left home without citing any reason to family members on December 28,2000,police said. On January 2,2001,a missing person report was lodged at the local police station. His parents,relatives,friends and the police searched for him in Maharashtra and other states,but failed to trace him,police said.

Explaining how he was traced,police said that a fortnight ago,sub-inspector Vikas Kumbhar of the cyber crime cell of the crime branch of Pune rural police got information from a friend in Nanded,Sham Poshetty,that Manohar has a Facebook account. Poshetty,a senior officer at Beed Municipal Corporation,told Kumbhar that Manohar had left a message for an old friend on Facebook and is known to be residing in Pune district.

The cyber crime cell team studied details of Manohars FB account. The team contacted persons in Manohars friend list for information. Finally,on July 5,Manohar was found in Shirdi,police said.

Inspector Balraj Lanjile,sub-inspector Kumbhar,constables Rahul Kirve,Atul Dere and Mayur Wadkar were in the team that searched for him through Facebook.

After tracing Manohar,we called his family members to Pune and handed him over to them. He was the only child of his parents. The family had lost all hope of meeting Manohar as he had never contacted them in the last 11 years. He is now about 33 years old. He did not tell us why he left home. We did not force him to tell the reason as he was meeting his family after a long time, said Kumbhar.

We only got to know Manohar is an Arts graduate. He worked in a hotel in Goa. It is strange because his family owns a hotel in Nanded. However,it was satisfying work by the cyber crime cell. Manohars parents were in tears to see him after long, Kumbhar added.

SP,rural police,Sandip Karnik had recently started the cyber crime cell and the economic offences wing of crime branch considering the increasing number of cyber and economic offences in the district.
