A 46-year-old realty agent,Sunil Sadashiv Bapat, killed his live-in partner Anuradha Bhalchandra Veerkar (40) and ended his life by hanging himself at his Shaniwar Peth residence on Sunday.

The police found the bodies around 10 am on Monday. They also found Bapat’s ‘full and final dying declaration’ in the house and a hammer with which he had assaulted Anuradha. Assistant commissioner of Police Ranjit Dhure said Bapat had mentioned in his “declaration” that he was frustrated owing to a dispute with Anuradha.

“On January 19 this year,Bapat had prepared his will and also the sale deed of the flat in the name of his first wife. The dying declaration found at his house was prepared on February 2. Hence we suspect that Bapat had planned to kill Anuradha and himself about a month ago,” said Dhure.

The police said Bapat had mentioned in his declaration that he had given all rights of his property to his estranged wife Neelima Dattatraya Upalkar (39). Their divorce petition is pending in court.

Expecting that he would get divorced by December 2009,Bapat had registered his name with a matrimonial website, through which he came into contact with divorcee Anuradha in July. Anuradha was working as a clerk at the Shivajinagar court and had been divorced 11 years ago. She had a son from her first marriage. Bapat and Anuradha had completed their marriage rituals at Ratnagiri and Kolhapur temples between July 19 and September 2.

Anuradha had been residing with Bapat at his Shaniwar Peth residence though her son and brothers were against the relationship. Her brothers had even beaten up Bapat some months ago. A complaint in this regard was registered at the Vishrambaug police station.

However, two months ago,Anuradha had returned to her mother’s house as Bapat had allegedly started to harass her for money. On Sunday, she had came to Bapat’s house in the evening. Her son Amrut came to the house on Monday morning, when she did not return home. As there was no response, he approached the police. The police team broke open the door, and found Bapat hanging and Anuradha lying in a pool of blood.
