Man dies after cardiac arrest while dancing in procession

Sharad Athawale (32) from Market Yard,who was dancing for several hours during a procession,died after cardiac arrest,said Dr Rajendra Jagtap,who coordinated emergency medical services programme.

Jagtap said their ambulance located at New English School rushed him to Poona hospital but he was declared dead on arrival.

Doctors stationed at various places along the immersion route treated several revellers for palpitations,giddiness,hypertension and headache. “There were several police personnel who could not bear the constant noise,apart from children who suffered from giddiness and were brought in by the Ganesh mandal volunteers,” Jagtap said.

Newsline had reported how the unique initiative of Regional Transport Office — Street Sense — had brought together nine biking groups to help provide medical aid during the processions.

Jagtap of the Universal Health Foundation pointed out that as many as 100-150 people sought medical treatment and a majority complained of irritation due to the constant loud noise. There were cases of suffocation and vomiting as well,he added.

According to Dr Shyam Sunder Jagtap from Street Sense volunteers of Ganesh mandals were also quick to reach out to those who were injured and brought them to ambulances.
