Man arrested with brown sugar worth Rs 4.3 lakh

The Pune police have arrested one Raju Ramesh Idnani (45),a resident of Mangalwar Peth with possession of 430 grams of brown sugar worth Rs 4.3 lakh.

The Pune police have arrested one Raju Ramesh Idnani (45),a resident of Mangalwar Peth with possession of 430 grams of brown sugar worth Rs 4.3 lakh.

Acting on a tip-off,a team of Anti Narcotics Cell of the Pune police crime branch nabbed Idnani near Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation,in the wee hours of Tuesday,soon after Idnani stepped out of a private luxury bus from Mumbai.

Police inspector Satish Devare of the Anti Narcotics Cell said that Idnani had brought the brown sugar from Mumbai. “He was produced at the Pimpri Court and has been remanded to police custody till January 22,” he said.

“We could not interrogate Idnani properly as he suffered from fits after being produced in the court. He has been admitted to a hospital in Nigdo. We will also hold an enquiry into the details of his customers in Pune,” he said.

Police said there is no past crime record of Idnani,who claims to be a labourer. He has been booked under section 8,21,22 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. A complaint was registered at the Pimpri police station.

In 2009,the Anti Narcotics Cell of Pune police has seized 3.826 kilograms of brown sugar worth Rs 59.4 lakhs.

As many as 23 persons were arrested in these cases. While in 2008,54 persons were arrested and the police have seized 2.8 kilograms of brown sugar worth Rs 30 lakhs.
