Mahayuti internal bickering comes to fore in Pune as BJP leader slams NCP MLA

When foundation stones for Rs 300-crore projects were laid in Vadgaon Sheri with Maharashtra Dy CM Ajit Pawar as chief guest, publicity materials didn’t feature CM Eknath Shinde or Dy CM Devendra Fadnavis.

Internal bickering between partners of Maharashtra’s ruling Mahayuti has surfaced in Pune as well with former BJP legislator Jagdish Mulik accusing NCP Vadgaon Sheri MLA Sunil Tingre of denying alliance partners credit for development work.

Foundation stones for government projects worth Rs 300 crore were laid in Vadgaon Sheri on Monday with Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar as chief guest. However, publicity materials for the event featured only the NCP chief, not leaders of the other Mahayuti partners, the Shiv Sena and the BJP.

“That the MLA did not include pictures of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in the publicity materials is completely wrong and against the alliance’s rule. Does it mean that the alliance’s rule should be followed only by the BJP and the Shiv Sena?” said Mulik, who was defeated by Tingre in the 2019 Assembly elections.

Mulik said that Tinge was also not taking anyone from the BJP and the Shiv Sena into confidence in the constituency.

When the BJP leader’s objection was raised, Ajit Pawar said it had been decided by the chief minister and the two deputies that foundation laying or inaugurations for government projects in districts would be done by local legislators and their respective leaders.

“If the local leaders were not informed of the decision, they should now follow whatever I am saying. The objection raised now is due to misunderstanding among the leadership,” he said.

Pawar said this was a foundation-laying ceremony and that the publicity materials for the inauguration would have photos of Shinde and Fadnavis as well.

Incidentally, Mulik had taken potshots at Tingre when he faced allegations of protecting the accused in the Porsche hit-and-run case. He had put up hoardings saying that only leaders with a clean image can ensure the welfare of Vadgaon Sheri residents.

Recently, BJP leader Asha Buchake protested against the NCP in Junnar for not inviting other alliance leaders to a government meeting on tourism chaired by Ajit Pawar. It was convened on a request from NCP MLA Atul Benke.
