Maharashtra: 8 Pune seats have never voted for same party in consecutive Assembly polls

On the other hand, there are 6 seats that have voted for the same party or politician in 2009, 2014, and 2019 elections.

PuneAs reported here, there are eight constituencies in Pune that have never voted for the same party twice in a row in the Assembly elections held in 2009, 2014, and 2019.

Battles for the 21 Assembly seats in Pune district have commenced ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly elections on November 20. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a rally on Tuesday at the SP College ground to campaign for Mahayuti candidates, as did Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in Gokhale Nagar last Friday.

As reported here, there are eight constituencies in Pune that have never voted for the same party twice in a row in the Assembly elections held in 2009, 2014, and 2019. On the other hand, there are 6 seats that have voted for the same party or politician in all three of these elections.

The Ambegaon seat was won by Dilip Walse-Patil of the combined Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in all three elections by huge margins. Similarly, Baramati has been an NCP stronghold and has been won by Ajit Pawar every time since 1991. In 2019, Pawar won with a margin of 1,65,265 votes.

Sangram Thopte, son of six-time MLA Anantrao Thopte, of the Indian National Congress has won the Bhor constituency in the last three elections. However, 2019 was a close contest with Thopte winning by just 9,619 votes.

The Chinchwad Assembly seat was won by the late Laxman Jagtap in 2009 as an Independent and on a BJP ticket in 2014 and 2019. After his death, his wife Ashwini Jagtap fought and won the bypoll in 2023 on a BJP ticket. Madhuri Misal from the same party has also won Parvati constituency in the last three elections.

Kasba Peth presents an interesting situation. It was considered a BJP stronghold with the late Girish Bapat winning it from 1995 to 2014 and Mukta Tilak winning it in 2019. After Tilak’s death, Ravindra Dhangekar won the seat on a Congress ticket in the 2023 bypoll in a major upset for the BJP.
