As many as 2,832 cases were disposed of in two days under the state revenue department’s initiative ‘Maha Loknyalaya’. With an aim to reduce the huge pendency in revenue cases,7,500 cases pertaining to record of rights and land disputes were heard in the presence of revenue officials and lawyers of the Pune Bar Association on October 29 and 30. The Pune division had shortlisted 7,500 cases for hearing.

“The Lokadalat pertained to quasi judicial cases. We had scrutinised the cases for over a month before they were taken up for hearing. The revenue tehsildars had studied the cases. Cases, including those dating back to 1974,were heard at all the 58 talukas of the division,” said Pune Divisional Commissioner Prabhakar Deshmukh.

He added that there were cases, which saw three generations fight for it. “We plan to have another hearing in December,’’ Deshmukh said.

In the city,1,489 cases were disposed of,followed by 348 in Satara,235 in Solapur,337 in Sangli and 423 in Kolhapur districts in the division. All nodal officers appointed for the talukas helped in collating the information of the cases and sub-divisional magistrates were appointed to hear the cases.
