We take a look at the five glorious achievements that have taken place over the last five decades in the state
Comprehensive Economy:According to a comprehensive study,the economic growth of Maharashtra in the last five decades is impressive. The state has toppled other five Indian states that includes Gujarat,Tamil Nadu,Andhra Pradesh and Delhi and has been identified as a perfect destination for investment. The state is also well ahead in terms of the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP),as compared to other states and it accounts for 40 per cent of the total GDP of the country and has 74 Special Economic Zone (SEZ) approvals from the Government of India,which is higher than any other states in India.
Education:The state has an excellent record in the education sector for the last five decades,Universities and the education sector in Maharashtra are highly rated globally. Moreover,Mumbai University,Pune University,SNDT Womens University,Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research,and Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economy,Pune are rated among the best of the universities in the country. Maharashtra has the maximum number of universities (11.3 percent),followed by Tamil Nadu (10 percent) and Uttar Pradesh (9.2 percent).
The Right to Information Act:Introduction of the Right To Information (RTI) in 2005 was a big achievement for the government and at the same time it emerged as an asset for every citizen in the country. A report by the Maharashtra State Information Commission reveals that the state has been leading in responding to the Right to Information Act (RTI) queries in the last four years. It also tops at the number of RTI applications that were filed in the country.
Empowering women:While the Womens Reservation Bill was still debated by the representatives of the country,the Maharashtra State Government on March 11,demanded that the Central Government raise womens reservation to 50 percent for all local self-governing bodies. Among empowering women,the first woman President of India,Pratibha Singh Patil is an ideal example. Currently,there are 9,448 women sarpanches in the state. However,the turning point of empowering women Maharashtras villages has been the self-help groups (SHGs).
Entertainment:The hub of the Indian Bollywood film Industry,the state has been the epicenter of entertainment ever since motion pictures were introduced in India. The first feature film Raja Harishchandra was produced in Pune by Dadasaheb Phalke,the father of Indian Cinema. Bollywood had to go through a lot of struggle before it could come out as one of the busiest film industries in the world. The first International Film Festival of India was held in early 1952 in Mumbai. The industry has produced classics like Mother India,Slaam Bombay that have made us proud on International map.
