As many as 40 musicians will come together to present an audio-visual treat for the Hindi film music afficianados

There was an era when melody was ‘queen’ and music was ‘fresh’,as it was created through acoustic instruments and not electronically. Often we go back to these songs, get refreshed and revive our curiosity about the creation of these songs. The old magic will be revisited at a musical event ‘Melody Unplugged’,where 40 musicians will share the stage and present the music from the Hindi films of 50s to 60s.

“Altogether 55 artists will be participating in the show, which includes five singers,40 musicians and a 10 piece Violin Section, along with full rhythm and brass section,” says Jitendra Bhuruk, one of the key persons behind the show. He feels that the show will not only refresh the memories of the seniors who associate themselves with the music of the grand old days but will also provide a whole new experience for the youngsters.

The highlight of the show is a grand piano that has never been included in any musical show in Pune. Besides, acoustic melody instruments like guitar, sitar, violin, mandolin, flute, trumpet, saxophone, accordion, harmonium, harmonica and rhythm instruments like bongo,congo,tumba,dholak,tabla,madal,reso-reso,zhembe will be there to regale the audience. “Musicians such as Noor Sajjad,Suraj Sathe,Ramakant Paranjape,Vivek Paranjape,Sandeep Kulkarni, will be showcasing their skills. This show is an excellent opportunity for one and all to experience the rendering of acoustic instrument by such a huge musical troupe,” added Bhuruk.

Singers Dhaval Chandwadkar,Rama Kulkarni,Priyanka Barve ,Rashmi Mukherjee and Jitendra Bhuruk will present hits of Kishore Kumar,Mohamed Rafi,Mukesh,Manna Dey,Lata Mangeshkar Asha Bhosale and Geeta Dutt.

“Though Pune has witnessed a number of events in the past that focussed on the golden era of Hindi music but nothing like this and in such a grand scale has taken place. To do justice to the original music,we will be playing the music ‘as it was’,” said Bhuruk. It is evident that the absence of the golden voices has created an eternal vacuum that cannot be filled but the team assures that they will pull up the show immaculately.

(‘Melody Unplugged will be held on July 30 at Balgandharva Auditorium at 8.30 pm)
