Her warm smiles,chirpy laughs and spontaneous humour have always connected with audiences. And Thursday afternoon was no different. Well-known Marathi actress Nirmiti Sawant was her humourous self at Kisan 2010,an agricultural expo at Moshi. She sportingly conducted part of an agriculture knowledge quiz and then felicitated the winner – Mahavir Dhulasavant – as the RML Krushi Samrat.
For Sawant,acting is what she was born to do. Talent is like raw gold which can be purified to make beautiful ornaments. There are many who have inborn talent but that needs to be nurtured and perfected,which is only possible when one is open to learning.
Her other film Ideachi Kalpana is an out-and-out comedy. During this three-hour movie,the audience will do nothing but laugh! she smiles. Sawant is partial to comedy and most of her roles have been full of humour. She reasons,Yes,I do a lot of comedy flicks and dramas but even they have a message. When a subject is serious and it is given a very serious treatment,it kills the interest of the audience. What I aim for is to make people realise the importance of an issue through comedy. If you see,even in Gangubai Non Matric,I have done just that.
In recent times,Marathi movies have seen national and even international success. That’s because there is new talent in the Marathi industry that is not content with sticking to the traditional. They are trying to do things differently,even though we don’t have the level of technology that the Hindi film industry has. Plus,wherever Maharashtrians go,they take their movies along with them! she smiles.
