Barely four months after his appointment as the first CBI special judge in Pune,S V Lathkar was on Monday transferred as member,industrial court,Mumbai. Even as the notification of his transfer had come earlier this month,Lathkar was relieved on Monday. Until the appointment of another CBI special judge,additional sessions judge S N Sardesai has been given the additional charge of hearing CBI cases.
In April,Lathkar was appointed as CBI special judge to exclusively hear CBI-Anti-Corruption Bureau cases. There are 63 CBI cases pending before the CBI court in its jurisdiction in Aurangabad,Sangli,Satara,Kolhapur,Solapur,Beed,Ahmednagar,Osmanabad and Jalna,of which 47 are from Pune district.
A notification to setting up three CBI special courts,one each in Pune,Nagpur and Amravati,for expediting trials in CBI cases was issued by the state department of law and judiciary on March 30 last year. They are part of the 71 dedicated CBI court being set up in the country.
This special court is expected to dispose off the cases within two years from the date of filing the charge sheet.
