Job fair for differently abled gets huge response

A job fair for the physically challenged,organised in the city on Saturday,saw participation in huge numbers.

A job fair for the physically challenged,organised in the city on Saturday,saw participation in huge numbers with people from age groups ranging from 17-70 applying for various positions with leading corporates.

The two-day job fair,‘Beyond disabilities or infinite possibilities’ organised by the Eknash Trust saw leading companies like Thermax,Symantec. Tech Mahindra,Cummins India Ltd and Tata Autocomp Systems coming forward to extend their support for making the physically challenged employable.

“We were expecting 100-150 people but the response was tremendous with more than 500 job aspirants participating in the event. On the first day companies shortlisted around 250 candidates for various position and rest of them were in the waiting list. Since its a Sunday tomorrow we are expecting more people,” said Sumagal Bhatwadekar,member of Eknash Trust. He said there participants came from across Maharashtra and some even from neighboring states.

“We were not prepared for such huge participation. There were some candidates who had high qualification and also candidates who have passed their HSC. Some companies like Wipro were carried out interview for all the candidates,” he said. Bhatwadekar said the job fair also helped to understand bridge gap between qualifications and skills available and expected by companies.

“The fair will also help us know better what training programs will benefit physically challenged and to encourage institutes,universities and vocational guidance centres to collaborate with corporations and physically challenged and introduce courses for them,” he said. Visually challenged,hearing impaired,mobility challenged nad very marginally intellectually challenged participated in the job fair.
