Tirthesh Guha, the U-16 national basketball coach, feels the FIBA Asia U-16 tournament will be a good opportunity for budding Indian cagers to rub shoulders with the best in the business in the weeklong competition.

“It will be a good learning experience for the squad”,he told The Indian Express here on Saturday. “This will be an excellent chance to compete with teams like China and Japan,” he added.

Of the 12-member team, only three players — Sagarika Shyam,Suganya L and Ranjitha Kaur — have earlier represented the county in an international tournament.

“We had two preparatory camps. The players responded well. They have shown improvement in coordination and skills,” said Guha.” On Nagma Mirza’s injury,he said,“It is unfortunate . However, host teams always have the advantage of the home ground and home crowd” he added.
